Course Description:
The purpose of this course is to provide teachers and administrators with a framework of routines, practices and learning activities designed to equip today’s youth, adolescents and young adults with the skills to ensure a positive psychological, social and emotional well-being. These skills allow for student success in solving problems, resolving conflict, and self-advocating. Throughout this course the educator will learn strategies and techniques in order to infuse these practices within their existing curriculum and how-to role model the skills in each of these 5 modules provided by the authors. All of the strategies have been proven to succeed based on research conducted in the classroom.
Learning Outcomes/Competencies:
At the completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Possess the skills to implement an SEL framework in their classroom or school. InTASC 1,9,10
- Build character traits including empathy, compassion, trust, acceptance, respect, and citizenship. InTASC 1,3
- Develop a climate and healthy relationships within your group that includes listening, observing, and expressing an interest in others. InTASC 1,3
- Use The Eight Essential Questions resolve conflict, solve problems, and self advocate. InTASC 2,3,9
