PE Endorsement Program
Advance your teaching career by earning your Physical Education Endorsement
Illinois Physical Education Endorsement Program
Enhance your career in the teaching field by earning a Physical Education (PE) endorsement through our specialized program tailored for Illinois teachers.
Although the Illinois State Board of Education does not have pre-approved programs, there are just a few simple steps to adding this endorsement. Simply put, the state of Illinois requires you to:
- Put in for a transcript review. ISBE will then tell you how many hours you need for the endorsement (you may have a class or 2 that will qualify already on your transcripts).
- Finish 18 hours of acceptable coursework. Click the link and scroll down, you’ll see that our courses fit the acceptable courses listed.
- Turn in your official transcripts to ISBE for approval.
- Take the ISBE Physical Education (144/213) test.
Program Overview
Our PE endorsement program focuses on equipping educators with the latest instructional practices and best practices in physical education. The courses cover a wide range of topics, including:
- Instructional Strategies: Learn innovative techniques for engaging students in physical activities that promote lifelong fitness.
- Adapted Physical Education: Develop skills to create inclusive physical education programs that accommodate students with diverse and unique physical needs.
- Assessment and Evaluation: Master effective methods for assessing student performance and progress in physical education.
- And much more. You get to choose your courses for this endorsement, so the actual content learned will vary.
Program Structure
The program consists of 6 distance/correspondence courses. Again, you may end up taking fewer than 6 classes if the state determines you already have some hours that qualify.
As they are distance courses, you have the flexibility to take one course at a time or accelerate your progress by enrolling in multiple courses simultaneously. This structure allows you to complete the program as fast as you desire, depending on your schedule and pace. Once you sign up and receive your materials, you’re free to begin. The syllabus for each course is already available on our website.
Enhance Your Career
Earning a PE endorsement opens up new opportunities for career advancement and allows you to make a greater impact on your students' lives. By specializing in physical education, you can promote healthy lifestyles and physical fitness among students, contributing to their overall well-being and academic success. Additionally, anyone adding this endorsement will be equipped to meet the diverse needs of students, including those in special education and those with unique physical needs.

Cost and Time
Cost and Time Commitment for Adding a PE Endorsement to Your Certificate
If you're an Illinois teacher looking to add a PE endorsement to your credentials, you’re in luck. A physical education endorsement is one of the easiest endorsements to add, and one of the most affordable.
Program Cost and Time Commitment
ISBE doesn’t require you to take a specific program or set of classes. As such, we have set you up with a list of distance courses, which are available for $375 for 3 credit hours. That includes the book, meaning there are zero hidden costs or fees associated with taking our PE courses.
Since ISBE will tell you how many courses you’ll need to take (after you ask for a transcript review), we can’t give you a specific time frame for how long it will take you. As distance courses, you can already see all the required work for each course by clicking on the syllabus. You can start immediately after signing up, and work as fast as your schedule permits.
The most you’ll pay would be $2,250 (should you need to take 6 courses).

To qualify for an evaluation, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
- View the requirements for Illinois licensure to determine what endorsements and grade levels are available so you apply appropriately.
- Create an account in the Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS). Once you create an account you can apply for the desired credential. View screen-by-screen tutorials under "ELIS How-To Demonstrations" for assistance.
- Have your regionally accredited institution send official* transcripts directly to ONE of the following addresses:
